On July 12, 2016, the shareholders of AccorHotels approved the acquisition of FRHI Holdings Limited (FRHI) and the corresponding share capital increase reserved for the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Kingdom Holding Company (KHC).  Under the agreement,  Accor SA paid approximately US$2.6 billion in cash and stock to acquire FRHI Holdings Limited (FRHI), the holder of the Fairmont, Raffles and Swissôtel brands.

AccorHotels, formerly known as Accor S.A., is a French multinational hotel group, part of the CAC 40 index, which operates in 94 countries.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is a Canadian operator of luxury hotels and resorts.

McCarthy Tétrault's deal team was led by David Woollcombe and included Lara Nathans, Deandra Schubert, Dami Katibi, Jacob Stone, Louis-Philippe Samson and Myreille Gilbert (M&A), Gordon Baird (Financing), Gabrielle Richards and Amanda Laren (Tax), Godyne Sibay, Nadia Conforti and Saqib Butt (Real Estate), Oliver Borgers and Michelle Siu (Anti-trust), Trevor Lawson, Lorraine Allard and Mark Firman (Labour, Pension and Benefits), and Kirsten Thompson (privacy).
