Experienced municipal and planning lawyer, Christie Gibson, Joins McCarthy Tétrault

McCarthy Tetrault welcomes Christie Gibson to the Toronto office as a partner in our Real Property and Municipal Planning groups.

Christie has been repeatedly recognized by Best Lawyers as “One to Watch” in Municipal Law and Real Estate Law. She combines formidable expertise in land use planning law, encompassing all aspects of municipal and environmental law to give clients a unique and powerful legal perspective into their projects. She represents both public and private sector clients before the Ontario Land Tribunal and Ontario courts on a wide range of matters, including redevelopment applications, heritage matters, and appeals of municipally-initiated instruments.

In addition to her law practice, Christie is a leader in the legal community and champion of women in law. She is the Past-Chair to the Ontario Bar Association’s Municipal Law Executive and has served on the Canadian Bar Association’s Municipal Law Executive. Christie is a mentor with the Osgoode Women’s Network, and hosts an annual CPD event for junior female lawyers in the field. She further serves on the steering committee for the Cambridge Forum on Land Use Planning for Emerging Leaders, and is an active member of the Building Industry and Land Development Association and the Urban Land Institute. She is also the past Vice Chair of the United World Colleges National Committee of Canada.

“Our clients in the real property space are contending with unique, and in many cases, unprecedented challenges, in the Canadian market that require creative responses to complete their projects,” said John Currie, McCarthy Tétrault’s Practice Group Leader for Real Property. “Christie’s recognized expertise in land use planning combined with her excellent understanding of municipal and environmental law will give our clients insights into not just how to complete projects now, but how to strategize for long-term sustainable growth as the real property market shifts and evolves. We’re thrilled she’s joining our team.”
