Jonathan is a personable and practical problem solver who has the unique ability and experience to understand all sides of a matter. He achieves quick and efficient results for clients embroiled in complex disputes relating to land use planning, municipal, environmental and expropriation law.

Jonathan is an associate with McCarthy Tetrault’s Municipal and Planning Group in Toronto. Jonathan specializes in complex expropriations and development, planning and municipal approvals as well as agreements for large public and private sector development and infrastructure projects in Ontario. He has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Jonathan practices extensively before Ontario Land Tribunal, Committees of Adjustment and Land Division Committees.

In his expropriation law practice, Jonathan represents tenants, owners, and financial institutions in expropriation claims across Ontario. Jonathan also provides advice and assistance to expropriating authorities.

Jonathan is a dynamic municipal litigator who has acted on both sides of many types of disputes giving clients a unique perspective on municipal legal problems. Jonathan has defended municipal and regulatory charges while also having acted as a prosecutor for various Conservation Authorities regarding the prosecution of environmental offences under the Conservation Authorities Act.

As a Sessional Instructor at the University of Windsor, Jonathan helps prepare aspiring and future lawyers for successful careers by teaching them the basics of Canadian law and the legal system.

Jonathan received his law degree from Queen’s University in 2016. While at Queen’s Jonathan competed in Vienna, Austria for the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot where he won a top oralist designation. Jonathan also holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Master of Arts from the University of Windsor.

Jonathan was called to the Ontario Bar in 2017.
