On January 2, 2024, Smucker Foods of Canada Corp. (“Smucker's”) completed the previously announced sale of its Bick's® pickles, Habitant® pickled beets, Woodman's® horseradish and McLarens® pickled onions brands to TreeHouse Foods Canada, Ltd. (“THS”) for US$20 million, subject to a working capital adjustment.

Smucker's is a leading marketing and manufacturer of fruit spreads, retail packaged coffee, peanut butter, shortening and oils, ice cream toppings, sweetened condensed milk and natural food products in North America sold under brands including Smucker’s, Folgers®, and Jif®, among others.

THS, based in Oak Brook, Illinois, is a private brands snacking and beverage manufacturer.

McCarthy Tétrault advised Smucker's with a team led by Lara Nathans that included Gurvir Sangha, Lama Kahiel, Sarah Ferguson, Khristoff Browning (Business), Jason Gudofsky, Kate McNeece, Will Rooney (Competition), Jade Buchanan, Curtis Chance (Technology), Nicole Naglie (Labour and Employment), and Vincent Yip (Intellectual Property).
