On June 16, 2005, the CRTC approved Sirius Canada Inc.'s application. After a hearing was held in November 2005, Sirius obtained an application for a national licence to deliver a satellite radio service in Canada. The process was unique because it involved integrating the Canadian service with the existing Sirius service now available in the United States such that there is a North American platform. The challenges included finding the correct levels of Canadian content, control, and expenditures.
McCarthy Tétrault advised Sirius with a team that was led by Grant Buchanan.
