On March 15, 2012, Shell Canada Products closed the sale of 236 Shell Branded retail stations and convenience food stores in Québec and the Maritimes to Sobeys.
Shell Canada, headquartered in Montréal, Québec, is a subsidiary of Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch Plc, and one of Canada's largest integrated oil companies.
Sobeys, headquartered in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, is the second largest food retailer in Canada, with over 1,500 supermarkets operating under a variety of banners. It is a subsidiary of the conglomerate Empire Company.
