Pastor who was fired after coming out as trans sues Baptist church for wrongful dismissal and human rights violations

On July 20, 2021, Rev. Junia Joplin commenced an action in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice against her former employer, Lorne Park Baptist Church. Rev. Joplin was suspended from preaching and then was fired from her position as Lead Pastor after she came out as trans in a sermon in June 2020. Rev. Joplin seeks damages for wrongful dismissal, a declaration that LPBC discriminated against her contrary to the Ontario Human Rights Code, and damages for that breach.

Lorne Park Baptist Church is a Baptist congregation located in Mississauga, Ontario.
