On June 9, 2017, Goldcorp Inc. ("Goldcorp") announced that it had closed the acquisition of a 50% interest in the Cerro Casale project from Kinross Gold Corporation (“Kinross”) and Barrick Gold Corporation (“Barrick”), the acquisition of a 100% interest in the Quebrada Seca project from Kinross and the formation of a 50/50 regional joint venture with Barrick over the Cerro Casale, Quebrada Seca and Caspiche projects in Chile's Maricunga district (the “Transaction”).
Goldcorp is a senior gold producer focused on responsible mining practices with safe, low-cost production from a high-quality portfolio of mines.
McCarthy Tétrault LLP advised Goldcorp on the Transaction, the granting of certain royalties granted in connection with the acquisitions of the interests in the joint venture from each of Kinross and Barrick, and the grant of a water supply agreement to Kinross by the joint venture, with a team led by Roger Taplin (Mining and M&A) and included Frederico Marques, Adam Wanke, Ryan Hornby, Patrick Deutscher and Ainslie Hurd (Mining and M&A), and Oliver Borgers and Jonathan Bitran (Competition).
