James is an Associate in the Business Law Group in Vancouver. James’ practice focuses on advising companies, investors and entrepreneurs on transformative corporate and commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and venture capital investments. James also advises companies and boards of directors on corporate governance and shareholder activism matters. He has acted for clients in a wide range of industries, including technology, life sciences, healthcare, banking & financial services, consumer products and private equity.

Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, James practiced in New York with Cooley LLP and Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.

James received his LLM in Taxation from New York University in 2018 and his Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia in 2015. He was called to the New York bar in 2016, the Ontario bar in 2017 and the British Columbia bar in 2024. James clerked at the Tax Court of Canada between 2016 and 2017 and previously worked as a Certified Public Accountant at Ernst & Young.
