Ikran is a JD student at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and a Junior Fellow at Massey College. She obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Criminology & Sociolegal Studies, International Relations, and African Studies at the University of Toronto, Victoria College. Ikran also earned an MSc in Criminology & Criminal Justice and an MSc in Refugee & Forced Migration Studies at the University of Oxford, Balliol College as a Rhodes Scholar. Her research focused on how legal frameworks disproportionately affect the lives of Black immigrant and refugee populations in Toronto.

While completing her undergraduate degree, Ikran served as two-term President of the Arts and Science Students’ Union where she advocated on behalf of over 27,000 students. She now serves as the most recent alumna on the Dean of Arts and Science’s Advisory Council.

At law school, Ikran continues to pursue her passion for advocacy. As a volunteer for the Criminal Law Division at Downtown Legal Services, she helps marginalized individuals defend against their criminal charges. A mentor for Somali youth and a proud Somali Canadian, Ikran continues to stay involved with the community that raised her.

In her free time, Ikran enjoys playing her violin and attending trivia nights with friends.
