Stephanie Willsey named one of WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women

The Women's Executive Network (WXN) has announced its annual award winners and Stephanie Willsey was recognized as one of its Top 100 Most Powerful Women for 2022 in the Professionals category.

WXN's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards is Canada's most recognized honour for the highest achieving women leaders in business, arts, sports, community, entrepreneurship, not-for-profit ventures, skilled trades, science, service and philanthropy. The awards gala was held in Toronto on November 17.

Stephanie was recognized for her impact both within McCarthy Tétrault and the communities she serves, as well as for her leadership in her field. Along with advising on a number of successful and challenging matters, Stephanie was a member of the counsel team representing Tataskweyak Cree Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and Neskantaga First Nation in a historic class proceedingthat resulted in an $8 billion settlement to address water infrastructure issues and long-term drinking water advisories on reserves.

Alongside her busy legal practice, Stephanie is strongly invested in supporting other lawyers. She serves as a mentor to many within McCarthy Tétrault and outside the Firm and assisted in the development and launch of the Firm’s Black and Indigenous 1L Summer Law Student Program, which broke new ground on Bay Street. She is also strongly involved in helping to recruit and retain Indigenous law students and lawyers and has supported the development of an Indigenous law student award.

Highly engaged within the community, Stephanie is the Program Coordinator of the Martin Family Initiative Indigenous Mentoring Program for high school students and serves regularly at the Pro Bono Students’ Canada Indigenous Human Rights Clinic. She has also served as a mentor in her community, Rama First Nation, and has been actively involved in broader global efforts regarding Indigenous issues.
