Haiya is a student at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at University of British Columbia.

Originally from China, Haiya received his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Specializing in Automobile Engineering, he graduated as Gold Medallist. Haiya then received his Master of Applied Science degree from University of British Columbia. Specializing in Mechanical Engineering, he received multiple awards, including Graduate Entrance Scholarship and International Partial Tuition Scholarship. Haiya also published his research result in an industrial leading journal.

At law school, Haiya worked as a research assistant to a taxation professor and has volunteered as a student clinician with the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program. He was awarded the Joseph M. Prodor Prize in recognition of academic excellence. He is also an active member of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL).

Haiya spent the past summer articling at a full-service law firm in Vancouver and a business law firm in China. He gained broad exposure to various practice areas, including corporate, real estate, family and immigration. Prior to coming to law school, Haiya worked as a mechanical engineer at a large French multinational corporation. He also worked as an undergraduate student advisor for two years.

Outside of work and law school, Haiya enjoys soccer, basketball and race car design. He was a team leader of a formula one race car design project sponsored by General Motors.
