My summer at McCarthy Tétrault was chock-full of practical advocacy experiences, during which I was able to learn a great deal in a very short period of time. I had the chance to work closely with partners and associates on a key client file, where I led portions of an expert witness meeting through my extensive medical research findings. I was also able to attend an examination for discovery on my own, and got to be involved in a fast paced corporate-espionage-style injunction order. The chance to take on real responsibility and get intimately involved in significant files made me feel like an integral part of the litigation process. Every lawyer I worked alongside was an excellent mentor, was always candid, and gave me transparent developmental feedback. This type of paying it forward at McCarthy Tétrault is imbedded in the firm’s culture, and the quality of the work opportunities is a testament to the strength and breadth of the firm’s student program.
