Vancouver, April 10, 2017 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce an increased strength and market presence in Vancouver’s commercial real property market.

Counsel Natalie Garton and Associate Gillian Piggott have returned to our industry-leading real property practice in Vancouver, bringing renewed energy and focus to the team. Natalie and Gillian are both highly experienced lawyers who practice commercial real estate law exclusively, regularly dealing with acquisitions, financings, and the development and sale of property. Natalie has particular expertise on leasing matters, while Gillian’s practice includes aboriginal and municipal matters.

McCarthy Tétrault’s position as the top real estate law firm in Canada and in the British Columbia market is further strengthened as we welcome Parisa Gerami as an associate to our Vancouver office. Parisa’s practice focuses on all aspects of commercial real estate law, including acquisitions and sales, the real estate aspects of corporate and project finance transactions, development projects and leasing. Parisa has already developed significant experience in representing owners and operators on hotel acquisitions and dispositions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Natalie and Gillian back to McCarthy Tétrault and our Vancouver team,” said Craig Shirreff, partner and newly-appointed Practice Lead of the Firm’s British Columbia Real Property and Planning Group. “Having two alumni return to the firm demonstrates our exceptional reputation and track record for handling some of the market’s most complex and interesting commercial real estate transactions. Parisa’s arrival is likewise welcomed, as is her expertise in the hospitality space. Our clients have always known that we can be counted on to assist them in tackling the opportunities and challenges presented in the British Columbia real property market, and now have three more trusted advisors to call upon for pragmatic advice and business solutions.”

McCarthy Tétrault’s commitment to understanding our clients’ industries inside and out is further enhanced by two recent appointments in the Vancouver real property market:

  • Partner Conrad Rego has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Vancouver branch of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP). NAIOP Vancouver is a commercial real estate development association representing developers, owners and investors of office, industrial, retail and mixed-use properties. It provides strong advocacy, education and business opportunities and connects its members through a powerful North American network.
  • Partner Scott Smythe has been appointed as a Director of the Land Title and Survey Authority of British Columbia (LTSA). The LTSA is a publicly accountable, statutory corporation with a mandate to manage, operate and maintain the land title and survey systems of British Columbia.

“These appointments are a further testament to how entrenched our lawyers are in the markets and industries in which our clients operate,” said Craig. “We are very pleased with all the recent developments in our group and look forward to continuing to work alongside our clients in this exciting and challenging market.”

With one of the largest real estate practices in the country and offices in all major Canadian business centres, McCarthy Tétrault's Real Property & Planning Group has the resources and experience to help clients capitalize on opportunities whenever and wherever they arise, and to coordinate national and international transactions efficiently. The Group acts for a wide spectrum of clients, including public and private companies, REITs, private equity firms, governments, financial institutions, universities, overseas investors and sovereign wealth funds.
