McCarthy Tétrault partner Simon Potter is named Lawyer Emeritus

Montréal, July 7, 2014 — McCarthy Tétrault congratulates partner Simon Potter on being presented with the distinction of Lawyer Emeritus by the Québec Bar. The prestigious title is awarded to distinguished members of the Order in recognition of excellence in their careers, raising the profile of the profession, and influencing their social environment and community.

Mr. Potter is a partner in McCarthy Tetrault’s Litigation Group in Montréal. He is highly regarded for his versatility as a corporate and commercial trial and appellate lawyer, and for his extensive experience in all areas of administrative law dealing with trade and competition issues. Mr. Potter has served on several binational panels under the Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA to review anti-dumping and countervail claims and to hear cross-border disputes. Mr. Potter has taken an active part in the direction of various bar associations, including the Canadian Bar Association, of which he was president for the year 2002-2003. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Permanent Court of Arbitration, and the Canadian Bar Association’s Class Action Task Force.
The title of Lawyer Emeritus is awarded to 19 deserving recipients in 2014 who will receive their award at a ceremony to be held in Montreal on September 17.
