Montréal, March 3, 2014 — McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that Pierre Langlois, a leading practitioner in the areas of mining, natural resources, energy and the environment, has joined the firm’s Business Law Group as counsel. Jan-Martin LeBlanc has also joined the group.
"The scope of Pierre’s experience and knowledge is a valuable asset for our mining industry clients in Canada and around the world," said Kim Thomassin, Managing Partner, Québec Region. "Few Canadian lawyers active in the industry have as impressive and diversified a track record. We are also pleased to welcome Jan-Martin, a talented lawyer whose background in geological engineering is another asset for our clients, to whom we are very proud to offer such high-calibre legal resources."
Mr. Langlois’ practice is focused on natural resource acquisition, development and exploitation, including all aspects of prospecting, exploration, development, pre-production and production. He has extensive experience negotiating and drafting agreements with aboriginal communities. The holder of an LLD, he has taught mining law at the Université de Montréal’s Master of Business Law program since 2007. Mr. Langlois is recognized as a leading mining lawyer in respected legal directories, including the 2013 editions of Lexpert Leading Canadian Lawyers in Global Mining, Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and Lexpert Guide to the Leading U.S./Canada Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers.
Jan-Martin LeBlanc focuses his practice on the mining and natural resources sectors, aboriginal rights and environmental law. He represents clients on natural resource acquisition, development and commercial transactions. Before studying law, he earned a degree from École Polytechnique de Montréal and worked as a hydrogeological engineer for several years at a consulting engineering firm.
