Calgary, February 26, 2013 — McCarthy Tétrault will once again demonstrate its support for women in business as a co-presenting sponsor of the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) 2013 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Summit and Awards Gala Calgary. The event will take place on February 28 at the Westin Calgary.

"We are thrilled to be involved with WXN for the third time to honour and celebrate the achievements of an extraordinary group of women leaders," said Cathy Samuel, a partner with the firm’s Business Law Group in Calgary. "We are so proud of our clients and own lawyers who are past and current WXN honourees. Our annual WXN summit sponsorship reflects McCarthy Tétrault’s longstanding and ongoing commitment to celebrating diversity and the promotion and advancement of women in business."

McCarthy Tétrault’s involvement with the WXN is not limited to its annual summit and gala sponsorship. Several of the firm’s partners have been named among Canada’s top 100 most powerful women in the Professionals category. Kim Thomassin, Managing Partner for the firm’s Québec Region, is a current recipient of the WXN award. Godyne Sibay, Lisa Vogt, Barbara Boake and Gabrielle Richards won in previous years.

McCarthy Tétrault’s sponsorship of the WXN summit is just one of its many initiatives that celebrate the achievements of women. The firm has a history of supporting and advocating for women in the legal sector. Recently, McCarthy Tétrault was the first Canadian law firm to sign the Catalyst Accord, partnering with Catalyst Canada in its call to action for Canadian corporations to increase the overall proportion of FP500 board seats held by women to 25% by 2017. It also was the first in the Canadian legal services sector to establish the role of Chief Diversity and Engagement Officer, appointing partner Lisa Vogt to the position. In addition, McCarthy Tétrault was recently selected as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers 2013; the designation is part of Mediacorp Canada’s annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, in which the firm is identified as a Top 100 Employer 2013.
