McCarthy Tétrault expands its Real Property and Planning Group in Montreal
Montréal, August 17, 2011 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that James Papadimitriou, Valérie Mac-Seing and Sébastien Thomas are joining the firm as partners in its Montreal Real Property and Planning Group.
The expertise of these new partners will enhance the depth and flexibility of the firm's real estate practice and current team, and allow McCarthy Tétrault to better serve its national and regional clients with an exceptional platform and a stronger team. James Papadimitriou, who will actively participate in the leadership of the group, joined the firm yesterday, while Valérie Mac-Seing and Sébastien Thomas will join on August 22.

- James Papadimitriou is one of Canada's leading real estate lawyers, with extensive experience advising clients in real estate acquisitions, developments, commercial lending transactions, real estate joint ventures, real estate financings, mortgage portfolio purchases, project financings and commercial leasing transactions. His experience also includes a role as in-house counsel of an international corporation. James is recognized internationally for his expertise and highly ranked in a variety of legal directories, including in Chambers Global, LBR's International Who's Who of Real Estate Lawyers , The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and PLC's Cross-Border Corporate Real Estate Handbook. He was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1988 and the Ontario Bar in 1997, and received his BCL/LLB in 1987 from McGill University.
- Valérie Mac-Seing has broad expertise in real estate acquisitions, dispositions and structured finance. She represents lenders and borrowers in debt restructurings, interim and permanent financings, financings of corporations, and domestic and cross-border acquisition financings. She also advises real estate investment and pension funds, foreign investors, lenders and real estate promoters in their real estate transactions. Valérie was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1999 and received her BCL/LLB in 1997 from McGill University.
- Sébastien Thomas practises real estate and infrastructure law, with extensive experience in real estate acquisitions and dispositions, commercial leasing and development projects, with a focus on wind energy, infrastructure and industrial projects, municipal zoning and regulatory matters. He also has expertise in municipal law, realty tax and assessment and expropriation in the contexts of both litigation and project implementations. Sébastien was admitted to the Québec Bar in 2000 and received his LLB in 1999 from Université de Montréal.
