McCarthy Tétrault Ranks Fourth by Market Capitalization of AIM Clients
June 20, 2006
London, UK, June 20, 2006 – McCarthy Tétrault is the fourth-ranked law firm by client market capitalization on London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM), reports The Lawyer, a London-based legal publication. McCarthy Tétrault, a leading full-service law firm in Canada, has an active AIM practice in London advising issuers and advisers on transactions originating from all over the world. With a particular specialty in transactions involving Canadian issuers, the firm has advised on approximately half of the 40 initial public offerings (IPOs) by Canadian companies on AIM to date.
"With McCarthy Tétrault, Canadian issuers and advisers, in particular, benefit from using one firm to meet both their Canadian and English law needs," said Rob Brant, Managing Partner of McCarthy Tétrault’s London office. "The growth of AIM is an international success story that continues to attract companies from around the world in a variety of sectors. We have worked in the AIM market since Canadian companies first started listing here a few years ago. Today our clients also include issuers and advisers from the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and many other countries who are all attracted to the deep capital pool and unique regulatory structure of AIM and to our experience solving cross-border issues."
AIM is the London Stock Exchange’s international market specifically designed for smaller, growing companies. It combines the benefits of a public flotation with what is called a "lighter touch" approach to regulation. Since AIM opened in 1995, more than 2,200 companies have listed on the exchange and almost CAD$50 billion has been raised collectively.
"The London capital market is one of the most competitive markets in the world, and these results show that our Capital Markets Practice has attracted some of AIM’s biggest companies," added Mr. Brant. "Our work for these companies includes not only IPOs but also mergers and acquisitions, debt finance and general commercial work under English law."
