An emerging leader in privacy and technology law, Jade is ranked by Chambers as “Up and Coming” in privacy and data protection law. He was recently included in the Global Data Review’s 40 Under 40 recognizing the best of the upcoming generation of data lawyers globally. Jade is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional (Canada).

A Leader in Cybersecurity and Privacy

Jade’s cybersecurity practice begins before the incident, helping organizations with incident preparedness, risk management and the acquisition of cybersecurity software and services. He has worked on some of the largest cybersecurity incidents in Canadian history and dozens of other incidents, including data breaches and ransomware attacks.

On privacy compliance, Jade has particular experience in the retail and technology sectors, helping clients balance compliance, risk, innovation and competitiveness. Jade has a strong interest in leading the rapid development of privacy and cybersecurity law. He recently appeared before the B.C.’s Legislative Assembly’s Special Committee to review the Personal Information Protection Act and maintains an active presence on Twitter and LinkedIn. Jade has spoken on technology, privacy and cybersecurity at dozens of events and guest lectured at the University of Victoria and for Osgoode Hall Law School’s Certificate in Privacy and Cybersecurity Law.

Unique Public Sector Experience

As part of his unique public sector focus, Jade has extensive experience advising on British Columbia’s public sector privacy legislation (the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) for public bodies and their service providers. He has also led the negotiating of significant public sector outsourcing deal, including cloud and on premise solutions. As counsel to Canada’s Digital Technology Supercluster, Jade has helped launch several multi-participant technology development projects that bring together the private and public sector.

Advancing Legal Technology

Supporting technology adoption in the practice of law, Jade is a member of the Firm’s Cloud Committee, has worked on several projects to adopt new technology and has provided on-going education within the firm and to clients on how to improve their practices with technology.

Jade in a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and Law Society of Saskatchewan (inactive). Jade clerked for the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal under the Chief Justice.
