Lawyer Profile Detail


Layne Thiessen is an associate in our litigation group in Calgary. He has represented clients before all levels of court in Alberta. He has experience litigating, negotiating, and resolving disputes for a wide variety of clients across a number of industry sectors.

While focusing his practice on disputes involving energy and financial institutions, Layne has also been involved with civil claims against the Crown, employment claims, receivership applications, IIROC complaints, and solicitor taxations. He has also assisted with the preparation of and response to regulatory applications before the Alberta Utilities Commission and the Energy Resources Conservation Board (now AER).

Layne is an active volunteer in the community including with the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Amicus Project and the Provincial Court of Alberta’s Duty Counsel program.

Layne obtained his BA from Brandon University and his JD from the University of Manitoba. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Calgary Bar Association.
