James Papadimitriou is a partner in the Montréal office, with a practice focused on real estate and financial services. He also has an active leadership in the firm’s Real Property & Planning Group and acts as the Group’s lead for the Québec region.

Mr. Papadimitriou advises clients on a variety of real estate acquisitions, developments, joint ventures, commercial lending transactions, real estate financings, project financings and commercial leasing transactions. He also regularly represents Canadian chartered banks and other retail operators on commercial leasing matters, acts for landlords on leasing matters and represents major cargo operators and port users in leasing matters with port authorities.

Mr. Papadimitriou is ranked in the current edition of Chambers Canada in the area of Real Estate (Nationwide-Canada) and as a «Band 1» for the region of Quebec. Moreover, he is recognized internationally for his expertise, including in Who’s Who Legal Real Estate 2014-2015 ("internationally renowned for his expertise"); Best Lawyers in Canada since 2008 (in asset-based lending and equipment finance as well as in real estate fields); LBR’s The International Who's Who of Real Estate Lawyers (as "highly sought after for his expertise"); Who’s Who Legal Canada (as "trusted" advisor); Who's Who Legal 100 ; in the current edition of The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (as a repeatedly recommended lawyer in asset equipment finance/leasing, asset securitization, banking & financial institutions and corporate commercial law and consistently recommended in property development); PLC’s Cross-Border Corporate Real Estate Handbook (as a recommended practitioner in corporate real estate); and in Euromoney’s Expert Guides as a leading real estate lawyer. Mr. Papadimitriou speaks regularly at conferences and on panels for the real estate sector, and is frequently cited in the media. Last October, Mr. Papadimitriou acted as a moderator for the McCarthy Tétrault AdvanceTM Program Lunch Seminar: Investing in Commercial Real Estate in the United States. Furthermore, Mr. Papadimitriou was co-president and speaker at the Développement immobilier et urbain au Québec conference held in February 2013. At the 7th annual Montreal Real Estate Leasing Conference, held on May 23, 2013, Mr. Papadimitriou was invited to moderate a panel discussion for the session entitled: " Landlord & Tenant Rights and Remedies: Five Common Default Scenarios and Other Issues That You Need to be Aware of in Today’s Market". He has also presented on Top Ten Tips for Tenants and Purchasers of real estate recently as well as acquisition financing and off-title searches.

Mr. Papadimitriou has practised at two other major Montréal law firms and has been in-house counsel with a major international transportation company. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the International Bar Association – Real Estate Committee, the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association, the Urban Development Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centres. Mr. Papadimitriou is also a Governor of the Québec Bar Association Foundation and a fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA).

Mr. Papadimitriou received his B.C.L./LL.B. from McGill University in 1987 and his BComm from McGill University in 1983. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997 and to the Québec Bar in 1988.
