Heather Meredith is a partner in our Bankruptcy & Restructuring Group in Toronto. She practices in the areas of bankruptcy, insolvency, restructuring, and commercial litigation, representing a broad array of stakeholder groups in commercial restructuring proceedings including debtors, secured creditors, landlords, suppliers, monitors, trustees and receivers.

Heather has been involved in numerous large Canadian corporate restructurings including the Asset Backed Commercial Paper restructuring (representing the Canadian banks), Hollinger Canadian Publishing Holdings Co. (representing the CCAA Monitor), Skyservice Airlines Inc. (representing the court-appointed receiver and bankruptcy trustee), Arctic Glacier Inc. and U.S. Steel (representing the debtor in its CCAA proceedings). She is also the author of several papers in the insolvency and restructuring field including Expedited Debt Restructuring in Canada (Banking and Finance Law Review with Kevin McElcheran).

Prior to joining the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Group in 2008, Heather had a general litigation practice at McCarthy Tétrault with a focus on commercial litigation and professional liability defence. She also served as prosecutor at the Discipline Committee of the Ontario College of Teachers.

Heather is active within the firm with student recruitment, mentoring, and the firm’s Diversity Committee for which she organizes the annual Toronto International Film Festival business development event. She is also a strong supporter of the firm’s United Way Campaign.

Heather is recognized as a Future Star in litigation in the current edition of Benchmark Canada.

Heather received her B. Arts Sc. (Hons.) from McMaster University in 1998, her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and her MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, graduating from the combined program in 2002. She also completed an exchange to Warwick Business School in England in 2000. She was called to the Ontario bar in 2003.

Heather is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Turnaround Management Association, the Advocates’ Society and the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations.
