Miguel Bourbonnais is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault's Litigation & Insolvency Groups in Montreal, where he has been practicing since 2001. His expertise lies mainly in insolvency law, commercial and banking litigation, and construction law, for which he heads the Quebec region practice group. Miguel also has extensive experience in corporate litigation, financial fraud and directors' liability. He is listed by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leader in insolvency law in its 2018 edition.

Miguel regularly pleads before the Superior Court and appellate courts as well as before the Bureau de décision et de révision (formerly the Bureau de décision et de révision en valeurs mobilières). He notably was a member of the winning team in an important case that raised complex legal questions on the rights of the Crown before the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition, he has experience in arbitration.

More recently, his combined practice in insolvency and construction law led him to represent a provisional administrator of a new residential building warranty plan appointed by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec due to the plan's insolvency. His mandate is to represent, as lead counsel, the provisional administrator in one of the most important litigations in Quebec's judicial history, raising numerous complex legal issues concerning a claim of over $110 million.

Miguel served as president of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency section of the Canadian Bar Association from 2010 to 2011. He is actively involved in the Théâtre du Grand Jour, where he sits on the Board of Directors.
