Julie K. Parla

Julie Parla is a partner in our Litigation Group in Toronto.
Julie’s practice focuses on:
- Infrastructure litigation, including bid/tender, fairness and procurement processes;
- construction disputes;
- disputes related to energy sector infrastructure projects;
- real property litigation, including commercial leasing, landlord tenant, and various transaction disputes.
Julie has represented clients in both the public and private sectors including P3 infrastructure ventures, municipalities, educational institutions, and owners in the healthcare and other private sector industries. Julie is vice-chair of McCarthy’s Construction Law Group, and has been a repeat guest lecturer for George Brown College’s Construction Law Course.
Julie’s practice also includes corporate/commercial litigation, class actions, contractual disputes and product liability. She is a member of our National Class Actions Group and has assisted with the defence of Ontario, national and cross-border clients such as Teranet Inc., BCE, Inc., Johnson & Johnson, and Apple Computer Inc.
Julie is also involved in medical defence work on behalf of the Canadian Medical Protective Association in civil and disciplinary contexts.
Julie is an experienced trial advocate, and has conducted both jury and non-jury trials. She has appeared before courts at all levels in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal, and has represented physicians on behalf of the Canadian Medical Protective Association before the courts, the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and at Coroners’ Inquests. Julie is a guest instructor for the Osgoode Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop. She is a contributing author to the book, Defending Class Actions in Canada: A Guide for Defendants, 4th Edition, published by LexisNexis in 2016.
Recently, Julie was recognized in the industry for excellence in client service, receiving the 2017 Lexology Client Choice Award for Litigation, Ontario.
Julie received her BA from McGill University in 1997. She received her LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2000, and was the recipient of the Davies, Ward & Beck and the Lang, Mitchner, Lawrence and Shaw Prizes in Commercial law. Julie was called to the Ontario bar in 2002.
Julie is currently a member of The Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Construction Law Section of the OBA.
