Sara Babich is an associate in our Litigation Group in Calgary. She has a general corporate commercial litigation practice and acts for clients on a broad range of matters including in the areas of construction, product liability, fraud, employment, intellectual property, contracts, administrative law, and bankruptcy issues.
Sara gained an in-depth understanding of the court process while clerking at the Alberta Court of Appeal where she worked on a wide range of legal issues including labour relations, commercial disputes, bankruptcy matters, and civil liability. She has an interest in appellate matters and regularly contributes to the Canadian Appeals Monitor Blog.
Sara regularly volunteers for the Civil Claims Duty Counsel Project and Queen’s Bench Amicus Project, which helps unrepresented and disadvantaged litigants with their civil claims in court.
Sara received her BCom from the University of Victoria in 2009 and her JD from the University of Alberta in 2013. She joined the firm and was called to the Alberta bar in 2014. She is a member of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Calgary Bar Association.
Recent Cases of Interest include:
¬ Pertman v Grandin Park Properties Inc. – The Alberta Court of Appeal held that an implied easement of apparent accommodation cannot exist when an express written agreement arose at the same time, for the same land, for the same rights, and from the same instruments. This is the first pronouncement from a Canadian court on this issue.
