Ryley Mennie is an associate in our Labour & Employment Group in Vancouver. He advises and represents clients regarding a broad range of issues relating to labour, employment, human rights, privacy and immigration law. He also assists clients with drafting and interpreting employment agreements and providing input on a wide variety of employment and labour related issues in business transactions.

Ryley has assisted and represented clients before all levels of court in British Columbia and various administrative tribunals, including grievance arbitration boards, the Labour Relations Board, the British Columbia Employment Standards Tribunal and British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal. He has also assisted clients with matters before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Ryley is enthusiastic about pro bono contributions and assists pro bono clients in a variety of matters, including: acting as designative representative for unaccompanied minors at the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board; representing clients before the Mental Health Review Board; contributing employment-related content to resources for young entrepreneurs; and advising not-for-profit clients in matters of employment and internal governance.

Ryley is a regular contributor to the firm’s British Columbia Employer Advisor blog, drafts and presents papers on current legal issues at the firm’s annual client conference and has prepared papers for and spoken at a number of external forums, including the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia’s Human Rights Conference and Employment Law Conference and the Western Labour and Employment Law Conference for Insight Information. Mr. Mennie also regularly contributes to other publications for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia, including its Annual Update.

Ryley joined after clerking at the British Columbia Supreme Court in 2011-12, where he worked closely with seven judges. He obtained a BA from the University of British Columbia in 2007 and his JD from Dalhousie University in 2011, where he was the recipient of the Arthur Allister McBain Memorial Scholarship, based on academic excellence and demonstrated significant involvement in extracurricular and community activities, and the LexisNexis Book Prize for excellence in Environmental Law.

Ryley was called to the British Columbia bar in 2013 and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of British Columbia and was recently elected as Treasurer for the Canadian Bar Association's Employment Law sub-section (British Columbia).
